Santos Laguna head coach Pablo Repetto has been dismissed from the club following the team's 3-0 home defeat to Tigres on Saturday night.

The decision comes after Santos have won just one of their six games played in the 2024 Clausura campaign, losing four times and drawing once. Santos' lone win of the season thus far came against Puebla on January 30 - a 3-0 triumph at the Estadio Corona.

After Santos' first victory of the campaign, the team suffered defeat twice - 3-0 to Atlas last weekend and 3-0 to Tigres Saturday night to end Repetto's reign as boss.

"We inform you that the stage of Pablo Repetto and his Technical Staff at the head of the Santos Laguna First Team has ended, to whom we thank the dedication and dedication shown throughout this time," the club said in a statement. "Likewise, we wish them the greatest success in the future."

Repetto told the media Saturday after the crushing defeat that he already knew his fate as head coach:

"From what I spoke yesterday with the directors, if we didn't win today they were going to fire me," Repetto said in Spanish after the game.

"So surely in a few hours the club will communicate the dismissal, that is the truth of how the issue is. The issue of the fans is understandable, people want to win."

Since taking over in April 2023, Repetto managed a 10W-4D-16L record at Santos and he leaves with the club in 16th place in the Liga MX Clausura table with just four points collected. Repetto guided Santos to the Play-In stage of the Apertura postseason last fall, but they bowed out to Club Leon 3-2.

The Guerreros are expected to appoint Ignacio 'Nacho' Ambriz as their new head coach, according a Daniel Velasco of TUDN. Amrbiz last coached Toluca but was fired in October of last year, and the 49-year-old has coaching experience with the likes of Club America, Leon and Chivas de Guadelajara.

Santos return to action on February 18 against Pumas at the Olimpico Universitario, looking to turn their season around with a new boss at the helm.
