Arsenal have confirmed that winger Reiss Nelson has officially put pen to paper on a new contract to extend his stay with the Gunners.

Nelson's previous deal was set to expire this summer and it appeared as though a departure from his boyhood club was on the cards, but an agreement over a new four-year deal was reached towards the end of last season.

The contract has now been signed and Nelson, who joined the club aged eight, is now tied to Arsenal until 2027.

"Reiss is a player I have admired since the first day I was here," said manager Mikel Arteta. "He has tremendous ability and is such an exciting offensive talent. Reiss knows how important he is to our squad with the quality he has.

"It’s great that Reiss has committed his future to us - he knows this club so well, he grew up here and we look forward to enjoying many more good moments with him."

Sporting director Edu added: "Reiss is still only 23 years old but has already made a significant contribution to Arsenal for many years. He has gained good experience on loan, has come back and showed just how valuable he is to us.

"We are so happy to agree a new deal with Reiss, and we are proud that he is another young player who has developed through our Academy into our first team.”

Nelson made 18 appearances for the first team last season, racking up three goals and three assists, and also managed to contribute one of the best moments of the entire campaign - his late winner against Bournemouth in March.

The 23-year-old has played 66 times for Arsenal since breaking through the academy and is now set to add to that tally next year.
