Real Salt Lake midfielder Everton Luiz is headed to SK Beveren in Belgium’s second division on a permanent transfer.

Luiz becomes the second Major League Soccer player to arrive at the Belgian side this window, after Atlanta United announced the loan of homegrown midfielder Tyler Wolff to SK Beveren last week.

“We share nothing but gratitude towards Everton for his time with and service to our club,” general manager Elliot Fall said in a release.

“Everton was a critical piece in both our 2019 and 2021 playoff pushes with him in the lineup, and we are glad we could facilitate his desired move back to Europe. We expect great success for him in Belgium, and are proud to call him a member of the RSL family.”

The Brazilian player originally arrived at Real Salt Lake in 2019, initially joining on loan from Italy’s SPAL before the permanent transfer. He totaled three assists in 78 regular-season games for RSL, and played a key component in the team's 2021 playoff run.

Now, he departs as RSL sits in third place on the Western Conference table with 30 points in 19 matches and a record of 8W-5L-6D.
