Real Madrid vs Atalanta preview: How to watch on TV, live stream, team news and prediction

Real Madrid will look to secure their spot in the last eight of the Champions League when they face Atalanta in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday night.

Zinedine Zidane's side won the first game 1-0 and are in good form, having won six and drawn two of their last eight matches, though it hasn't all been smooth. Zidane's team have had to rely on late goals to secure results in recent matches - Karim Benzema scored a 91st minute winner against Elche last time out, having equalised in the 88th minute against Atletico Madrid in the previous game.

Atalanta, on the other hand, go into the tie in very free-scoring mood. Despite their form being a little rocky, La Dea have scored ten goals in their last four, picking up nine Serie A points. Gian Piero Gasperini's side currently sit fourth in the table, though they could relinquish that spot to Napoli who have a game in hand.

Zidane will once again be without Dani Carvajal, while Mariano Diaz, Marcelo and Alvaro Odriozola are all doubts for Tuesday night's game.

Casemiro is also out due to suspension, having picked up a booking in the first leg. Federico Valverde will likely come into the Real midfield to replace the Brazilian.

Atalanta team news

Hans Hateboer will miss out after fracturing his foot, while Remo Freuler will also be absent due to suspension. After the Switzerland international's red card in the first leg, Mario Pasalic is expected to step into the side having scored a brace against Spezia at the weekend.

Striker Duvan Zapata was on the bench for that game but will likely come back into the starting XI on Tuesday.

Prediction

Although Real Madrid have looked a little wobbly and lacklustre in recent weeks, their 1-0 advantage from the first leg could prove decisive.

The absence of Casemiro will make the defensive job against the free-flowing and potent attacking force of Atalanta all the more difficult, but the quality and ability to read the game in the Real midfield - as well as their strength in defence - should be enough to see them through.

Atalanta will have to push for the goals they need to go through to the last eight, but Los Blancos also have the quality to pick a splitting pass and finish a chance if the opportunity arises. It's an even contest but Zidane's men, with the aggregate scoreline, should see this tie out comfortably enough.
