Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has a chance to make his long-awaited debut for the club after being named on the bench for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal.

Hojlund completed a switch to United from Atalanta at the start of August for an initial £64m that could rise to £72m in time. But a pre-season injury he was already carrying from his summer in Italy ensured the young Dane couldn't be involved for a few weeks.

Hojlund, who United fans hope will be their club's answer to fellow Scandinavian Erling Haaland after lacking a long-term number nine for several years, has been getting closer to fitness ever since.

On Sunday morning, the club confirmed he would be the latest player to wear the number 11 shirt. A few hours later, he was included in the matchday squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Erik ten Hag had earlier hinted it was something that was coming.

"He can't wait [to play]. Of course, I would have appreciated it if we had him from the first game. That wasn't the case but now he is fit. We are happy he will definitely strengthen the squad and he will make a good impact on the team," the United boss said in the build-up, via The Guardian.

"He gives that energy and also the players get energy from it. It is very good. He is a different character in our squad and that makes it really exciting.

"He is brave and that's enough. He has belief and the rest will come. We scouted his skill and personality. Everywhere he has been so far, he's made a big impact. You need time and it will come, I'm convinced of that. Give him time to settle in."
