Ex-Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has encouraged Julian Nagelsmann to consider a proposal to become Tottenham's next permanent manager.

Nagelsmann is understood to be on Spurs’ list of potential candidates to replace Antonio Conte, who was sacked last month following an underwhelming season and an explosive post match press conference in which he heavily criticised the players and the club's board.

The 35-year-old German coach is currently without a job after being sacked by Bayern Munich last month. He held talks with Chelsea earlier in April, before being ruled out.

Rangnick famously worked alongside Nagelsmann during his time as RB Leipzig coach and believes Tottenham could be a good fit for him.

“I think Tottenham is an exciting club in many ways,” Rangnick told Sky Sports Germany.

“They probably have one of the most modern, beautiful stadiums in the world at the moment. They have one of the best training centres that is there at the moment and Daniel Levy, who has been running the club for many, many years.

“If Tottenham really want him, then I think it would be important if a sporting director was still there to support him. It can be a very, very exciting story. There is room for improvement, a lot of room for improvement and yet this is not a club where the house expects you to be in the top one or two straight away."

Nagelsmann is considered a top candidate for the position, given his impressive track record as a manager. He led RB Leipzig to a Champions League semi-final in 2020 and then guided Bayern Munich to their tenth consecutive Bundesliga title last season.

Despite Nagelsmann's impressive credentials, there are concerns that Tottenham’s squad may not be good enough to challenge for major trophies.
