Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi saw Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona draw 1-1 at the Parc de Princes on Wednesday night, as the French side progress to the Champions League quarter finals with a 5-2 aggregate win.

In a first half that Barcelona utterly dominated, it was the hosts that broke the deadlock when a VAR check harshly awarded a penalty against Clement Lenglet, who had inadvertently clipped Mauro Icardi's heel in the box. Kylian Mbappe stepped up and found the top corner in style to make it 1-0 after half an hour.

Barcelona responded well and took just seven minutes to find an equaliser, when Lionel Messi picked the ball up 25 yards out from goal and found Keylor Navas' top corner in sublime fashion. The Argentine, however, missed the chance to put his side ahead (on the night at least) from the spot just before half time, after Antoine Griezmann had won a penalty.

The clear-cut chances dried up after the interval, although the visitors continued to press for the goals they needed. The closest they came was just after the hour when Messi couldn't convert a goal mouth scramble after Marquinhos had heroically blocked his initial effort. Despite La Blaugrana pressing and adding fresh impetus from the bench, the Parisian side held on to qualify for the last eight at the expense of Barcelona, who fail to reach the quarter finals for the first time in 14 years.

Now, let's get to the player ratings...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Keylor Navas (GK) - 9/10 - Absolutely brilliant. Kept out numerous efforts, including a wonderful penalty save from Messi to keep it 1-1.

Alessandro Florenzi (RB) - 6/10 - Unfortunately came off injured in the second period but made a crucial contribution with a goal-line clearance to keep the score 1-1 in the first half.

Marquinhos (CB) - 8/10 - Read the game brilliantly and managed to snuff out the danger on several occasions, making four clearances and one significant block in front of goal to deny Messi.

Presnel Kimpembe (CB) - 8/10 - Showed real composure on the night, often tracking back with menacing runners and standing his ground rather than giving away cheap fouls.

Layvin Kurzawa (LB) - 4/10 - Really struggled against Sergino Dest and looked a little clumsy at times - notably giving away the penalty which Barca missed, before being taken off at half time.

2. Midfielders

Idrissa Gueye (CM) - 6/10 - Read the game well and found himself in some key areas to break up play, making three ball recoveries.

Leandro Paredes (CM) - 6/10 - Provided a threat with his delivery from set piece situations but, overall, didn't really impact proceedings.

Marco Verratti (CM) - 7/10 - Was a little off the pace compared to the first leg but still managed to add some much-needed composure to the midfield. Brought the ball forward well and made three key passes.

3. Forwards

Julian Draxler (RW) - 5/10 - Had some nice touches on the ball, but didn't have too much of an influence on his first Champions League start for over two years.

Mauro Icardi (ST) - 6/10 - Another quiet game for the striker but did manage a few progressive touches, as well as showing great positional awareness to win the PSG penalty.

Kylian Mbappe (LW) - 7/10 - Was a menace throughout and ran Oscar Mingueza ragged. Was the outlet that allowed PSG to sit deep and hold out, and capped off an important display with his fourth in the tie - making him the youngest player to score 25 Champions League goals.

4. Substitutes

Abdou Diallo (LB) - 7/10 - Was impressive after his half time introduction. Manged Barca's right side well, making six ball recoveries.

Danilo (CM) - 6/10

Angel Di Maria (RW) - 6/10

Colin Dagba (RB) - 6/10

Rafinha (CM) - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK) - 6/10 - Really didn't have very much to do apart from watch his side dominate the ball. Couldn't do anything about Mbappe's brilliant spot kick.

Oscar Mingueza (CB) - 2/10 - Couldn't keep tabs on Mbappe and, after receiving a booking on 25 minutes, carried on putting in rash challenges. Was hooked off in the 35th minute - ouch.

Frenkie de Jong (CB) - 6/10 - Seemed a bizarre decision to start the Dutchman at the back and, although he put in a good defensive shift, couldn't step up and really spray balls around to put his stamp on the game.

Clement Lenglet (CB) - 5/10 - An average display from the Frenchman. Didn't do too much wrong but will be remembered for giving away the penalty that put PSG ahead...which is quite a lot wrong come to think of it...

6. Wing backs & midfielders

Sergino Dest was fantastic going forward / FRANCK FIFE/Getty Images

Sergino Dest (RWB) - 7/10 - Phenomenal performance down the right. Koeman obviously didn't want any defending from his wing backs and it suited the American perfectly. Supplied attackers with great balls into the box and was unlucky not to score as Navas tipped his effort onto the bar, but quietened down after the break.

Sergio Busquets (CM) - 7/10 - Spread the ball really well, making two key passes and achieving a pass accuracy of 94%, while also screening the back three well with a couple of tackles.

Pedri (CM) - 7/10 - Brilliantly kept the pressure on the Parisians throughout. Recycled the ball well in front of the PSG defence and midfield and always looked for a killer pass.

Jordi Alba (LWB) - 7/10 - Like his opposite number, was a real threat in forward areas. often finding space at the edge of PSG's box. The Spaniard was a creative force for his side as well, making four key passes.

7. Forwards

Lionel Messi (CF) - 8/10 - Influenced the game throughout, picking out space between the lines but couldn't inspire a second 'Remontada'. Got the game back on level terms with one of the goals of the season but missed a penalty less than ten minutes later - sums Barca's game up.

Ousmane Dembele (ST) - 6/10 - His movement was unbelievable. His finishing was unacceptably poor. Somehow didn't come away with a goal, on a night where he should have bagged a hat trick.

Antoine Griezmann (ST) - 7/10 - Wonderful work rate and was elusive in his movement. Ran the game at times when he dropped deep while also making an impact in the box, winning the penalty before half time. Never really found a cutting edge, though.

8. Substitutes

Junior Firpo (CB) - 6/10 - Fared much better against Mbappe than the man he replaced and looked solid defensively.

Trincao (RW) - 6/10

Martin Braithwaite (ST) - N/A

Miralem Pjanic (CM) - N/A

Ilaix Moriba (CM) - N/A
