In some ways, this year's Premier League title race has already exceeded last season's two-horse charge between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Only three teams - the aforementioned duo and Tottenham Hotspur - ended a day top of the table throughout the 2022/23 campaign. This term, as many as seven have already looked down upon the rest of the division.

Current leaders Liverpool headline Sunday's lofty Premier League offering, with three of the top four involved.

Here's everything you need to know about a round of fixtures which could offer another twist in this season's enthralling title tilt.

Arsenal vs Brighton

  • Location: London, England
  • Stadium: Emirates Stadium
  • Date: Sunday 17 December
  • Kick-off Time: 14:00 GMT / 09:00 ET / 06:00 PT
  • Referee: Tim Robinson
  • VAR: Paul Tierney

Roberto De Zerbi has been at pains to underscore the detrimental impact of European football on his Brighton squad this term. "This season is totally different to last season," the Italian fretted earlier in the campaign, "we're playing every three days. We want to compete in every competition and we have to show if we're ready or not. We reached this level [by] pushing [and] pushing, but we are not there yet."

After European competition, Brighton have averaged 1.2 Premier League points per game compared to 1.8 in other top-flight matches. Arsenal, a far more seasoned European competitor, have dropped just two points in post-continental contests.

The Gunners not only have two days of extra rest compared to Brighton but were able to heavily rotate their setup for Tuesday's draw against PSV Eindhoven.

Brentford vs Aston Villa

  • Location: Brentford, England
  • Stadium: Gtech Community Stadium
  • Date: Sunday 17 December
  • Kick-off Time: 14:00 GMT / 09:00 ET / 06:00 PT
  • Referee: David Coote
  • VAR: Craig Pawson

Brentford limp into Sunday's contest on a run of four defeats in five games, losing against rock-bottom Sheffield United last time out.

However, Thomas Frank's side routinely up their game against the league's elite; since their Premier League return in 2021, Brentford have lost more away matches against clubs inside the relegation zone than they have when facing teams within the top three.

High-flying Aston Villa should make the trip to Brentford's home ground wary of their wounded hosts.

  • Location: London, England
  • Stadium: London Stadium
  • Date: Sunday 17 December
  • Kick-off Time: 14:00 GMT / 09:00 ET / 06:00 PT
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • VAR: Jarred Gillett

When Gary O'Neil was subbed shortly before the hour mark, his West Ham United side led an Everton team managed by David Moyes. In O'Neil's absence, the Hammers fell to a 2-1 defeat. A decade on, O'Neil will share the touchline with Moyes but as a visitor to east London.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers squad will contain another familiar face in the form of Craig Dawson. Ahead of his return to the London Stadium, O'Neil hailed the centre-back as "real low maintenance with real high output".

Liverpool vs Manchester United

  • Location: Liverpool, England
  • Stadium: Anfield
  • Date: Sunday 17 December
  • Kick-off Time: 16:30 GMT / 11:30 ET / 08:30 PT
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • VAR: John Brooks

Jordan Henderson captained the last Liverpool team that didn't win a game at Anfield. Boasting an imperious 100% record in front of their own fans this season, the Reds are expected to welcome their largest home crowd in half a century following the completed redevelopment of the Anfield Road Stand.

Manchester United have repeatedly wilted in front of the hostile atmospheres of the Premier League's elite. It's been more than two years since United last won away from home against one of the division's current top nine.

Stripped of suspended club captain Bruno Fernandes, United hobble into Liverpool's lion's den on the back of a humbling Champions League exit. Instead of ending Liverpool's perfect home form, United may be content with avoiding the 7-0 mauling they suffered on their last trip to Anfield.
