The group of death will come to a conclusion on Wednesday when Portugal and France face off for one of the top two spots in Group F.

It's France who sit top of the group, and a win for Didier Deschamps' men would be good enough to seal that place, but defeat could see them drop down to third if Germany can get a positive result against Hungary.

For Portugal, just one point would be enough to get them through to the knockout stages, but a loss could see them eliminated if results from other groups go against them.

Here's everything you need to know about this one.

Portugal team news

Portugal remain without injured duo Joao Felix (thigh) and Nuno Mendes (hamstring), with the latter's absence meaning another start for Raphael Guerreiro despite his own goal in the 4-2 defeat to Germany.

There could be a handful of changes to the team following that game, the most likely of which could be the inclusion of LOSC Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, who could replace one of either Danilo Pereira or William Carvalho to give his side a little extra spark.

France team news

Ousmane Dembele has left the camp and returned to Barcelona after his knee injury was deemed serious enough to keep him out for the remainder of the tournament, so his role on the bench will now be given to somebody else.

That's the only concern for Deschamps, who has the option to - should he so wish - rotate his squad after securing a spot in the knockout stages.

Portugal vs France predicted lineups

Portugal: Patricio; Semedo, Dias, Pepe, Guerreiro; Pereira, Sanches; Bernardo Silva, Fernandes, Rafa Silva; Ronaldo.

France: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Kimpembe, Lucas; Kante, Pogba, Tolisso, Griezmann; Mbappe, Benzema.

Portugal vs France head-to-head record

The history books are almost entirely in France's favour for this one. Out of their 27 meetings in the past, Les Blues have come out victories no fewer than 19 times, with Portugal only winning six and holding France to a draw on two occasions.

The two sides met in the Nations League in late 2020, and it was France who had the last laugh. They drew 0-0 in October before Deschamps' men bagged a 1-0 victory a few weeks later.

The meeting before that? Oh yeah, that was the Euro 2016 final, where Eder's extra-time winner handed Portugal a memorable title victory.

As the only side yet to lose a game in the group, you'd have to say France come into this one as favourites, and they will feel somewhat confident after watching Portugal get pumped 4-2 by Germany last time out.

Having said that, France are yet to really set the world on fire this summer. They weren't particularly impressive when they were held by Hungary in their last game and needed an own goal to scrape past Germany. There's an air of vulnerability around them.

Portugal need the points here more than France to, so expect Fernando Santos' side to go for it, but this is still France we're talking about. They don't have to be in elite form to win games.

Prediction: Portugal 1-2 France
