The Portland Timbers have announced they've exercised their option in the contract of forward Nathan Fogaça. The new deal keeps him at Providence Park through the 2023 MLS season with a club option on 2024.

The 23-year-old Brazilian joined the Timbers from Cortiba in his homeland in May last year, going on to score a brace on his debut as Portland thrashed Sporting Kansas City. However, they turned out to be his only goals in 11 appearances across the rest of the season, with Fogaça adding one assist to his tally.

Fogaça also hit two goals and an assist in four MLS NEXT Pro matches for Portland Timbers 2, while he previously tasted success in USL with 13 goals in 34 appearances for San Antonio FC.

Heading into the 2023 campaign, Fogaça will continue to provide depth at the No.9 spot for the Timbers behind Felipe Mora and Jaroslaw Niezgoda, though new GM Ned Grabavoy has already hinted that the club may further strengthen in that area.

Portland begin their 2023 MLS campaign at home to Sporting Kansas City on February 25.
