5 players with the most assists in ISL history
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the most competitive football league in India, with all the top players from the country participating in it. The league also boasts decent foreign talent, while in recent times, it has emerged as a breeding ground for youngsters.
Here, we take a look at five players who have registered the most assists in the history of the league.
1. Hugo Boumous - 29 assists
Hugo Boumous has been a regular presence in the ISL ever since he arrived in India in 2018 and it came as a surprise to many that Mumbai City FC let him leave for ATK Mohun Bagan last season considering that he played a key role in them winning the league title in 2020/21.
The playmaker has been one of the best foreign players in the history of the league and leads the assist charts with 29 to his name, even winning the Golden Ball award in 2019/20.
2. Brandon Fernandes - 19 assists
An attacking midfielder who has is widely considered as one of the best Indian players in the league is Brandon Fernandes - with the 27-year-old shining for FC Goa ever since signing for them 2017.
Fernandes has registered 19 assists in 71 games and will no doubt look to add a lot more to his tally in the near future.
3. Marcelo Pereira - 19 assists
Also known as Marcelinho, the Brazilian is capable of playing on either wing or as an attacking midfielder and has starred for the likes of Delhi Dynamos, Pune City, Hyderabad, Odisha, ATK Mohun Bagan and NorthEast United during his time in India.
The 34-year-old who won the Golden Boot award in 2016, has been brilliant when it comes to providing assists for his team-mates and will be a big miss for Indian football.
4. Ahmed Jahouh - 19 assists
Ahmed Jahouh is another foreign player who has been extremely impressive for every side he has played and is one of the most important players for Mumbai City FC currently.
The 33-year-old played a key role in Mumbai's triumphs in 2020/21 and his performances saw the club extend his contract which will see him stay with the Islanders till the end of the 2022/23 season.
5. Roy Krishna - 19 assists
Roy Krishna has arguably been the best foreign player to participate in the ISL as he has been brilliant on the pitch as seen by the number of individual honours he has won so far.
The striker was key to ATK winning the 2019/20 league title while also being the top goalscorer in two editions and also winning the Golden Ball in 2020/21.
