Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed Erling Haaland twisted his ankle before being replaced in Saturday's 6-1 win over Bournemouth.

While Jeremy Doku was dazzling against the Cherries, Haaland struggled to get involved in the first half and was hooked at the break and was spotted limping down the tunnel.

City coped without Haaland on the pitch but may be forced to do so for a little while longer as Guardiola confirmed the Norway international will require treatment on a twisted ankle.

"Twist in the ankle, we didn’t want to take risks with him, he didn’t feel comfortable," Guardiola told Match of the Day. "He’ll be back maybe Tuesday but maybe next Sunday."

City take on Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday before returning to Premier League action against Chelsea at the end of the week.

Haaland has started every game this season aside from the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United, which saw Julian Alvarez return to his natural position at the top of the team sheet.

The Argentine international has been used as an attacking midfielder by Guardiola in recent weeks but will likely start up top for City if the boss feels the need to keep Haaland out of action for a little while.

Alvarez is City's second-top scorer this season with four goals, behind only the 11 struck by Haaland.

Phil Foden, who often played as a false nine before Haaland's arrival the club, sits third in the standings with three goals to his name.
