Pep Guardiola laments Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Liverpool

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has said that he regrets leaving Liverpool 'alive' in the Premier League title race following an enthralling 2-2 draw with the Reds at the Etihad Stadium.

The results means Man City stay one point clear of Liverpool at the top of the league table with just seven games left to play, but the Citizens' dominance throughout Sunday's game means today was perhaps a missed opportunity to wrap up the title.

Speaking to the press after the game, Guardiola voiced his frustration: "Unfortunately we could not win. I have the feeling that we let them leave alive from here, but Liverpool are a joy to watch. The players they have up front, how difficult they are, no doubt about that.

"I’m so incredibly proud of my team. Now both teams know seven games left, you have to win all of them or it will be over.

"It didn’t matter what happened - win, lose or draw this isn’t over. I would have said the same in defeat or victory. Of course it was an important massive game, but we know what we have to do."

Guardiola also took the time to praise Kevin De Bruyne, who put in another brilliant performance on Sunday, scoring the opening goal of the game.

“He is scoring a lot of goals and making chances, knowing the position he is playing is so difficult against Liverpool because they are so narrow," he said. "And his vision for the last pass is exceptional.

“It’s true he struggled in the first part of the season a lot with the injuries from the Champions League final and the European Championships.

“He has been at this level many times. The year we made 100 points at that level Kevin was incredible.”
