Pep Guardiola has signed two-year extension to his Manchester City contract, ending the uncertainty over his future at the club as his existing deal began to wind down.

Guardiola was due to be out of contract at the end of this season and the speculation regarding whether he would stay or go was threatening to consume City’s campaign. But the two-time Premier League champions has now committed himself to the club until 2023.

“Ever since I arrived at Manchester City, I have been made to feel so welcome in the club and in the city itself- from the players, the staff, the supporters, the people of Manchester and the chairman and owner,” Guardiola told ManCity.com.

“Since then we have achieved a great deal together, scored goals, won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success.

“Having that kind of support is the best thing any manager can have. I have everything I could possibly want to do my job well and I am humbled by the confidence the owner, chairman, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain] have shown in me to continue for two more years after this season.

“The challenge for us is to continue improving and evolving, and I am very excited and about helping Manchester City do that.”

By the end of the 2022/23 season, Guardiola will have completed seven seasons with City, which is as long as he spent at both his two previous clubs combined.

The 49-year-old was charge at Barcelona for four seasons between 2008 and 2012, before taking a year out of management, and was later at the helm at Bayern Munich for only three seasons.

To date at City, Guardiola has won two Premier League tites, amassing 198 points across the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, as well as the FA Cup and three League Cups.
