Paul Pogba has explained that his 'heart' told him to rejoin Juventus this summer and revealed that he kept in touch with Massimiliano Allegri during his time at Manchester United.

Pogba's divisive second spell at United came to an end at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season with the midfielder failing to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.

Despite links to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus always seemed most likely to snap up the Frenchman on a free transfer - and so it proved.

Speaking for the first time since the move was confirmed, Pogba explained what drew him back to Turin.

"I am very happy to be back home -  because that is how I feel here, at home. I am extremely delighted," he said.

“It was always a pleasure to receive messages from Juventus fans when I was in England. My focus was completely on Manchester United, but I missed the fans here. Juve supporters are special, they really get behind the team.

"When I was at Man Utd I kept in touch with Mr Allegri. He was my coach here the first time, and we enjoyed some great moments together. I’ve always had a good relationship with him. He is the right man here and this was the right moment for me to come back.

"My heart chose Juve for me. I felt inside that this was where I wanted to come and that’s when the decision was made."

Pogba joins a Juventus side that endured a tricky 2021/22 campaign, slipping to a fourth-placed finish in Serie A and crashing out to Villarreal in the Champions League round of 16.

Despite these struggles, Pogba went on to reveal that he was aiming high heading into the new campaign.

"I don’t know what pressure means. I don’t feel any pressure at all. I have confidence in myself that I can do well here," he added.

"I know that Juve didn’t win last year, but neither did I. So we share the same ambition, to win again.

"We must continue to grow, the first aim this year must be to win back the scudetto. There is talent here, there are excellent young players and I think we can do great things together with the right mentality. We have to be hungrier than the other teams."
