Manchester City visit Paris Saint-Germain for the first leg of the Champions League semi final on Wednesday evening.

The English side head into the mammoth tie in high spirits having collected their fourth consecutive League Cup trophy at the weekend and can use that as fuel to the fire towards going further than they ever have before in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain are in fine form themselves, however, and overcame last season's competition winners in Bayern Munich to advance to the last four of the tournament. Having come agonisingly close last season finishing as runners up, Les Parisiens face a huge challenge in making the final again.

Both sides are desperate to reach the final here in order to silence doubters. In the first of two incredibly high stakes legs, here's 90min's preview of the clash.

Paris Saint-Germain team news

Kylian Mbappe hobbled off with three minutes to play against Metz at the weekend for PSG, sparking fear into fans that their star man could miss the clash through a leg injury. It is believed to be a minor one, however, so the Frenchman should feature.

Marquinhos was forced off in the quarter final first leg against Bayern and has been nursing a groin issue ever since, although he has since returned to training and could also make a comeback for Mauricio Pochettino's side. Abdou Diallo and Rafinha are also set to be available for selection, but Juan Bernat remains out as he recovers from an ACL injury.

Kevin De Bruyne started in City's League Cup final victory over Tottenham on Sunday to the delight of fans, having recovered from an injury suffered in the FA Cup. The Belgian scored twice over two legs when City met PSG in the Champions League last eight in 2015/16.

Ederson will return between the sticks ahead of Zack Steffen and John Stones could replace Aymeric Laporte having missed out on the weekend's final through suspension.

Raheem Sterling also started at the weekend, although Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero present Pep Guardiola with a variety of ways to mould his front three.

Prediction

Judging by the form in which both of these two sides are in, the squads they possess and the sheer desire to reach the summit, a fixture of this calibre cannot disappoint.

City, for as happy as they can be having picked up a trophy, will still have a chip on their shoulder heading into a game as big as this. A good result for them here away from home puts all the pressure on PSG to head to the Etihad and turn things around.

For the French side, meanwhile, it would be a huge shame to knock out last season's winners and not capitalise on it. City might be favourites on paper with a more balanced squad and more experienced coach, but Pochettino has an unbelievable attack to break down the Cityzens with.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 2-2 Manchester City
