Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Pape Matar Sarr has signed a new contract running until 2030.

Sarr has emerged as one of Spurs' best player so far this season and has become a favourite under new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

90min reported in August that Tottenham were planning to hold talks with the midfielder about a new deal, and the club confirmed on Tuesday he has put pen to paper on a six-year contract.

The 21-year-old first signed for Spurs in the summer of 2021 from Metz, rejoining the Ligue 1 side for the remainder of that season.

He joined up with the Tottenham first-team ahead of the 2022/23 season but had to wait until after the winter break to get a look in under Antonio Conte.

Sarr's breakout moment came in the first leg of Spurs' Champions League last 16 tie against Milan in February 2023. With starters Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma unavailable, Sarr partnered Oliver Skipp in the heart of midfield and performed admirably in a 1-0 loss at San Siro.

Postecoglou took a liking to Sarr after being appointed as head coach later that year and he has featured in 18 of Tottenham's 20 Premier League games so far, starting 16 of them and scoring twice.

At international level, Sarr was part of Senegal's 2021 AFCON-winning squad, while he was also called up to their 2022 World Cup roster.

He is set to take part at this month's AFCON having again been called into the Lions of Teranga's squad for the upcoming tournament.
