A mouthwatering game awaits on Sunday afternoon as high-flying Newcastle United host title-chasing Arsenal at St James' Park.

The home side have all but secured a return to the Champions League after a terrific run of results, exceeding the wildest dreams of any Newcastle supporter.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are now behind Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title, having held top spot for the majority of the season. An inopportune dip in form, including a 4-1 tonking at the Etihad Stadium, has surrendered the initiative to Pep Guardiola's charges, but courage and guts were shown in Tuesday's 3-1 overpowering of Chelsea.

The Gunners are far from down and out but have their work cut out to get a result against a Newcastle side who will be roared on by a vociferous home crowd.

Here's 90min's preview of the game.

Newcastle team news

Eddie Howe may reward Callum Wilson with a starting role alongside Alexander Isak after his brace in the 3-1 win over Southampton last Sunday, potentially forcing Anthony Gordon down to the bench.

Sean Longstaff may be fit to enough for a place in the squad after a foot problem, with Allan Saint-Maximin also in the running to return to action. Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth are the club's only confirmed absentees with calf and knee injuries respectively.

Arsenal team news

Mikel Arteta hopes to have Gabriel Magalhaes available in central defence after he picked up various knocks in the midweek win over Chelsea. William Saliba is already ruled out with a back issue - Jakub Kiwior his likely deputy ahead of Rob Holding.

Thomas Partey was only a substitute in midweek and may return for Jorginho in central midfield, while Gabriel Martinelli could be recalled in place of Leandro Trossard on Arsenal's left wing.

Newcastle vs Arsenal score prediction

Newcastle have been in blistering form of late, winning eight of their last nine Premier League games, and can't stop scoring goals. In Wilson, Isak and Joelinton, they have three of the division's most in-form attacking players, with Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier also performing at a high level.

Arsenal responded to their run of four games without a win by blitzing Chelsea in midweek, and they have the best away record in the Premier League - 11 wins from 17 games with 33 goals scored.

That should make this a fascinating game at St James' Park; one that is a must-win for Arteta's Gunners. The Magpies have lost just once on their own patch this season, though, and have conceded just 11 times in 16 home matches - the second best defensive record in the Premier League.

Momentum could see them over the line in a game of high quality, effectively ending Arsenal's hopes of a first Premier League crown in 19 years.

Score prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Arsenal
