Napoli took a huge stride towards their first Serie A title in more than 30 years with a 5-1 thrashing of Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Friday night.

Although they have played a game more than second place AC Milan, who play Lecce on Saturday, Napoli at least temporarily extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

Luciano Spalletti’s team struck first and early against a Juve that was actually coming into this one in decent form after putting together a string of seven consecutive wins. But Napoli were simply far better on the night, seeing more of the ball, using it more effectively and taking their chances.

Victor Osimhen got the ball rolling with a 14th minutes, before turning provider to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the closing stages of the first half.

Angel Di Maria gave Juve a degree of hope when he pulled one back shortly before the interval, but Napoli came roaring back to move out of sight once the second 45 minutes got underway. Kvaratskhelia laid on goals for Amir Rrahmani and Osimhen 10 minutes apart.

Substitute Eljijf Elmas got the fifth with around 20 minutes left on the clock.
