Liverpool supporters were left fearing the worst when Mohamed Salah suffered a hamstring injury during Egypt's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The 31-year-old swiftly returned to Merseyside to undergo his rehabilitation as Egypt crashed out of the tournament, with Salah wasting no time in getting back on the scoresheet when he returned to Premier League action against Brentford in mid-February.

However, the relentless winger has been sidelined since his trip to the Gtech Community Stadium and is yet another absentee for Jurgen Klopp's injury-hit Liverpool side.

Here is the latest news on Salah's injury and when he could return for the Reds.

Salah doesn't get injured too often but the Egyptian has suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury sustained on international duty. His issue arose during the 4-1 victory over Brentford in which he scored and assisted from the bench for the Reds in west London.

The attacker is always a mammoth miss for Klopp, who has had to get creative at times during his talisman's absence.

Salah's hamstring issue isn't too serious and the Liverpool star is on the mend. He was in consideration to feature in last Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, but missed out along with Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, Klopp has confirmed that Salah is being assessed daily by Liverpool's medical team as he prepares for a return to action, suggesting he isn't too far away from featuring for the Reds. While he may miss a few more games, he's likely to play for the Merseyside club before the March international break.

Salah has featured in just two games for Liverpool since the turn of the year - the 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on New Year's Day and the 4-1 win at Brentford. However, he was absent for the Carabao Cup final victory, as well as both FA Cup matches the Reds have played.

The ruthless forward has also been absent for some significant Premier League clashes, including the defeat at Arsenal in early February. Perhaps Liverpool would have been able to pick up some points at the Emirates with Salah in the side.

Liverpool have coped remarkably well without Salah and a host of their other attacking talents, winning eight of the ten fixtures they have played during the Egyptian's absence in 2024. They managed to win the Carabao Cup final and progress to the FA Cup fifth round without him, while also maintaining their spot at the top of the Premier League.

Diogo Jota was a significant contributor of goals in Salah's absence, as was Nunez, but the pair are also sidelined at present. Harvey Elliott helped fill in on the right wing having established himself as a midfielder at Anfield, while Conor Bradley even featured in an advanced role during the Carabao Cup final.
