Mikel Arteta has insisted that Kai Havertz's 'growing confidence' has been key to his improved form for Arsenal in recent weeks.

The Gunners forked out a whopping £65m to sign the German international from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but Havertz largely struggled for form during his first few months in north London.

Following that difficult start to life at Arsenal, Havertz has seemingly turned a corner recently - scoring four goals in the last month of club action. Speaking to the press about Havertz's form after the German scored another goal in a crucial win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, manager Arteta insisted that confidence has been key to his new signing's improved performances:

"His confidence is growing and he feels more secure on the field. The fact he’s scored one helped to score the second one. It’s four in seven games now and he should have scored a header today as well in a really good position," said Arteta.

"But overall, his performances, the intelligence he shows on the pitch, the aggression, how he works defensively, it’s top. Really good."

Speaking about the win itself, Arteta was keen to praise his players for an "outstanding" outing at the Emirates Stadium: "Outstanding, incredible. Big compliment to the team and to the players. I think we had an incredible performance against a top team.

"I think we fully deserved to win the game. I have to praise them because I know how difficult it is and what Brighton do to teams. We didn’t allow that to happen, so I’m super happy."

The Gunners and Havertz will be hoping to continue their fine form when they face off against title rivals Liverpool at Anfield next Saturday.
