Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has joked that he has ‘very wild dreams' when asked if he expected January signing Leandro Trossard to make the kind of impact he has done since joining the club.

Trossard completed a £25m switch from Brighton after falling out with Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi but has quickly proven to be a home run swing for the Gunners.

The Belgian was afforded some time to adapt and settle into his new environment, making his first four Premier League appearances in Arsenal colours off the bench. But he has become a regular starter since mid-February and has racked up seven assists in his last six league games.

The most recent of those was an assist to Gabriel Jesus to score Arsenal’s third against Leeds on Saturday to maintain their eight-point lead over Manchester City.

Overall, Trossard is up to 10 Premier League assist for the season after registering three for Brighton during the first half of the campaign.

“I have very wild dreams!" Arteta said when asked if Trossard had matched his ‘wildest dreams’.

“Seriously, we knew about his quality and what he could bring to the team,” the Arsenal boss added.

"We are really pleased with him. He can play right, left; he can play as an attacking midfielder, as a nine, false nine. He's really contributing to the team. He really takes a lot of responsibility in games to make things happen - and we love that.”
