Mauricio Pochettino has called on Chelsea fans to trust the "process" at Stamford Bridge following a damaging defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

Pochettino's side put in an abysmal performance on Saturday against Forest, missing a boatload of clear chances and eventually succumbing to a single Anthony Elanga goal in the 48th minute.

The defeat is Chelsea's second of the season already, with the Blues only managing to beat newly-promoted Luton Town in their first four games of the campaign so far.

What makes these results even more disheartening for fans is that they've come following an extraordinary spending spree by the club. In the last 18 months, Chelsea have forked out over £1bn on new players and even broke the British transfer record on two separate occasions - signing Enzo Fernandez for £106m and then Moises Caicedo for £115m.

Speaking to the press following yet another defeat, Pochettino was keen to stress that there will be ups and down early on in his tenure as Chelsea boss: "When you lose a game, the things that are negative appear [but] you know a process like this is always ups and down.

"We have a very young squad. We need to prove we can score and we can deal with the situation. Of course, we need to be more clinical in front of the goal and not make the same mistake like today when we concede the chance to Nottingham."

Chelsea will return to Premier League action after the September international break when they face off Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium before later welcoming Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge.
