Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has said he can't wait to return to action after resuming full training for the first time since November.

Mount joined the Red Devils from Chelsea last summer in a deal worth £55m, but has made just four Premier League starts for his new club thanks to a calf injury suffered in early November.

United have struggled to create chances in the final third during Mount's absence, with Boxing Day's comeback win over Aston Villa - which saw United battle back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 - breaking a 20-day goalscoring drought for Erik ten Hag's side.

The Dutchman recently revealed that Mount isn't likely to return to action until mid-January, and that assessment would appear to be accurate after the 24-year-old was pictured training at Carrington for the first time.

Posting on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Mount put up two pictures of himself in action alongside the caption: "Hope you had a great Christmas Reds, can’t wait to be back out there with the lads!"

Mount's impending return will boost a United side who have been missing a number of key players at a time when positive results have been hard to come by.

Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo have all had watching briefs of late, unable to do anything to prevent United losing to Newcastle, Bournemouth and West Ham in the Premier League.

Defeat to Bayern Munich in mid-December also saw United eliminated from not only the Champions League but also European competition altogether - they finished bottom of a group that also contained FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Next up for United is a trip to struggling Nottingham Forest, who picked up their first win under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo on Boxing Day - a shock 3-1 win away at Newcastle.
