Mason Mount is one step closer to becoming a Manchester United player after undergoing a medical at the club's Carrington training ground.

United have agreed to part with an initial £55m, plus a further £5m in add-ons, for the Chelsea academy graduate, who has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and rejected offers of an extension.

Personal terms have long been agreed with Mount, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford with the option for a further 12 months, and he is partaking in a medical before putting pen to paper.

Should all go according to plan, Mount will become United's first signing of the summer, and he could potentially slot into a midfield three alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

The 24-year-old could also provide cover on the left side of United's forward line, depending on the role Ten Hag sees him having within the team, though his work rate and technical ability may be far suited to playing more centrally in Manchester.

Further new faces are expected, with a goalkeeper on the agenda as lengthy discussions with David de Gea over a new contract continue. 90min also understands United that talks are continuing for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has emerged as a leading candidate to bolster the club's options up front.

United may need to offer Atalanta a deal in the region of £50m for talks to progress, though the Italian club believe that the young Dane already has a market value in excess of £60m.

As for Chelsea, Mount's exit will continue a summer of prolific selling. His departure will take the Blues' sales receipts up to £200m, and there are hopes to see that fee grow before the summer comes to a close.
