It has been three weeks since the transfer window slammed shut for Premier League teams but Arsenal have just conducted another significant piece of business.

Captain Martin Odegaard has just penned a new five-year contract at Arsenal that will keep him at the club until 2028. It may not be as glamorous as a new £105m signing, but it's a vital piece of transfer business that Mikel Arteta and co have got over the line.

Naturally, a new deal will come with a pay increase for the Norwegian and you can't say he doesn't deserve one. Odegaard's wage packet now more closely reflects his status within Arteta's squad.

Odegaard signed a permanent five-year deal with the Gunners back in 2021 worth approximately £30m from Real Madrid. The Norwegian had spent the second half of the previous season on loan in north London.

Odegaard's initial contract earned him a wage of £115,000-a-week, but he has since seen a number of players arrive on bigger contracts. Before he signed a new deal with the Gunners, the midfielder was only Arsenal's tenth highest earner.

Thanks to his fine performances, Odegaard's new contract will reportedly boost his wages to £200,000-a-week, putting him among the club's top earners. Over the course of a year, the maestro will take home £10.4m

However, there are still three players who earn significantly more than Odegaard at the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard's new wage makes him the equal-fourth highest earner at the club alongside Thomas Partey. Those who earn more than the former Madrid man are recent signings Kai Havertz (£280,000), Gabriel Jesus (£265,000) and Declan Rice (£240,000).

Havertz will certainly become an expensive problem for Arsenal should manager Arteta not be able to get the best out of the former Chelsea player following his £65m move, with his weekly wage tough to shift off the books should they ever need to sell.

Bukayo Saka (£195,000) and William Saliba (£190,000) have both received similar pay rises recently after signing new contracts and earn roughly the same as Odegaard. Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Martinelli have also penned fresh terms with the club this year.
