Marcelo Bielsa was videoed revelling in the adulation of Leeds United fans outside his home after the club finally returned to the Premier League.

Huddersfield's shock victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday night ensured that United could not be caught at the top of the Championship. Leeds have led the way for much of the campaign and will now play top flight football for the first time since their relegation in 2004.

Unsurprisingly, the man who masterminded the success, Bielsa, now commands an almost religious devotion among the club's fans. Nowhere was this more evident than when Leeds fans congregated around El Loco's rural Yorkshire home after their promotion was confirmed.

Bielsa is known for his open and modest lifestyle and was more than happy to greet the crowd with socially distanced elbow bumps and also posed for pictures.

Unfortunately he wasn't wearing the ill-fitting Leeds tracksuit that he was pictured in while out on a grocery shop earlier in the season. Shame.

The Whites' promotion banishes the demons of the previous season when they surrendered a lead at the top of the table to eventually finish third. In the playoffs they experienced further heartbreak, having a first leg lead overturned by Derby County in the semi finals.

With promotion now assured, Bielsa will now be focussed on securing the league title. Leeds need just one more point from their final two games against Derby and Charlton in order to clinch the Championship crown – and will be assured of the title without kicking a ball if Brentford drop points against Stoke on Saturday.

The only they can be deprived of the title is if they lose both of their remaining fixtures and third placed Brentford win both of theirs.

After promotion was assured, Leeds received well wishes from an eclectic list of former football stars and celebrities. Former United stars Paul Robinson and James Milner as well as Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were among those to have tweeted out in celebration.
