Manchester United have enquired about Brighton defender Ben White ahead of a potential move for the player this summer.

The 23-year-old was a serious target for Leeds United last summer after spending the season on loan with them in the Championship, but Brighton refused to do business and instead tied him down to a new contract.

He has been a regular this season for Graham Potter as the Seagulls battle relegation, but his performances have been good enough to attract the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to The Express, Man Utd are keen to sign a defender to partner with Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence. White's impressive performance have seen him added to a shortlist of options and United have made 'recent enquiries' about his availability and price - although it is unknown about what answer was given by Brighton.

While naturally a centre-back, White has found himself playing as a defensive midfielder on occasion this season.

The deal would make sense for United, with the club preferring to sign young, homegrown talent since the arrival of Solskjaer at the club. If Brighton are to be relegated too, White could become available for a cut-price fee, which would certainly entice the Red Devils.

White has also reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool, who are keen to bolster their defensive rankings again this summer despite signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline day this winter.

Manchester United have also been linked with several other defenders, with Jules Kounde of Sevilla and Real Madrid's Raphael Varane mentioned more than most.

With White's fantastic passing ability and physical presence, he would seemingly be an ideal option at the heart of the defence - although a lack of experience at the top level will likely see others come above him in the target list.
