Manchester City resume their Champions League campaign on Wednesday as they face Borussia Dortmund in an eye-catching clash at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s men got off to a perfect start in the opening round of Group G fixtures as they trounced Sevilla 4-0 in Spain. Borussia Dortmund, though, also set their own stall out with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Copenhagen.

A nice subplot will be Man City superstar Erling Haaland facing the club he left this summer. The Norwegian has made a typically prolific start to his career at the Premier League club, and you fancy he will be extra motivated to impress against his former employers.

Here's what you need to know about one of Wednesday’s UCL clashes.

Manchester City team news

City boss Pep Guardiola is still negotiating his squad through something of a defensive crisis. Kyle Walker and John Stones were missing through injury against Sevilla and they remain doubts for the visit of Dortmund. Aymeric Laporte will definitely miss out.

That should hand a further opportunity to Manuel Akanji, who only joined from Dortmund two weeks ago. Sergio Gomez could also feature against his former club.

Guardiola has plenty of options in attack, though, with Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez likely to be in contention to come into the side.

Borussia Dortmund team news

Dortmund have a real injury headache of their own, with Mahmoud Dahoud, Sebastien Haller, Gregor Kobel, Mateu Morey and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens all definitely ruled out.

Belgian international Thorgan Hazard is also a major doubt after he limped out of the win over Copenhagen last week with a thigh injury. Giovanni Reyna and Marius Wolf are standing by to replace him if he doesn’t make it.

Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi are also likely to be ruled out in attack, meaning Anthony Modeste will be asked to lead the line again.

Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund prediction

There are so many goals in this City team right now it's hard to see anyone beating them. Even when they were well short of their best against Newcastle and conceded three goals, they were still able to leave with something.

Dortmund won't be pushovers, of course, but the Bundesliga side are starting to look a little stretched by injuries right now. That situation was highlighted as they were well-beaten at RB Leipzig last week.

It looks like a game that should provide a lot of entertainment and produce plenty of goals, but expect City to get most of them.

Prediction: Man City 4-1 Borussia Dortmund
