Manchester United and Sheffield United each end their respective calendar years with a dead rubber Continental Cup group clash at the weekend.

Neither team can make it through to the knockout stages of the competition, with the fate of WSL high flyers Manchester United ultimately sealed by successive draws against Aston Villa and Durham earlier in the group. By the time they beat Everton last time out, it was already out of their hands.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, are winless after three games. They drew against fellow Championship side Durham but missed out on a bonus point by losing a penalty shootout, before falling to back-to-back home defeats to top flight duo Everton and Aston Villa.

The last time these two clubs met was in the Championship in 2019 when Katie Zelem, Lauren James, Ella Toone and Mollie Green scored in a 4-0 Red Devils away win.

Man Utd team news

Marc Skinner has reported no new injuries ahead of this one and could even put Aoife Mannion on the bench following her recovery from an ACL injury.

As has been the case throughout this competition, expect rotation. That should mean starts for the likes of Sophie Baggaley, Aissatou Tounkara, Jade Moore, Rachel Williams and others. Adriana Leon should also be back after recovering from a recent bout of flu.

Skinner has said he might take the opportunity to include a couple of youngsters in the squad, with Alyssa Aherne having impressed the most in recent weeks.

Man Utd vs Sheffield Utd score prediction

The fact this game is a WSL club at home to a Championship club means that Manchester United have always been heavy favourites, even with heavy rotation expected.

Add to that their recent form, going unbeaten against Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium and the Etihad Stadium respectively, thrashing Aston Villa at Old Trafford and putting four past Everton in this competition, it puts it even more in their favour.

Then consider that Sheffield United have lost seven consecutive matches in all competitions, which has seen them slip to 10th in the second tier, it all points to a one-sided home win.

Prediction: Man Utd 4-0 Sheffield Utd
