Manchester United and Liverpool's meetings nowadays are a far cry from the boring slogs we were treated to during the second half of the 2010s.

Even the 0-0 draws of late have had an extra bit of spice and jeopardy about them. English football's most storied rivalry has some classics to boast once again.

The two meet again on Sunday at Old Trafford in the sixth round of the FA Cup with a place at Wembley on the line.

Here's a look back through the archives at their last five encounters.

Liverpool's 34 shots at goal did not yield a single goal when these two sides last met, breaking United's previous record of 38 against Burnley in 2016 without finding the net.

Erik ten Hag's men remained resolute in their search for an unlikely point, and this dogged performance only made the results around this match - like a limp 2-0 loss at West Ham a week later and a 3-0 mauling by Bournemouth the week prior - all the more confusing.

Oh, here it is. The one you were looking for when you opened this article.

What's staggering in hindsight is the score was only 1-0 at half-time, and United to that point had actually been alright. And then they just caved in, for whatever reason.

Liverpool started the 2022/23 season with draws to Fulham and Crystal Palace, yet they still made the trip to Old Trafford as overwhelming favourites.

Erik ten Hag was already under pressure following his first two games in charge of United - a 2-1 loss at home to Brighton & Hove Albion before a thumping 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

The Dutchman received a grilling from Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher pre-match. There was talk his job was already on the line. But his boys put in one hell of a fighting performance, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford grabbing the Red Devils' goals.

This is a cracking example of why you should never overreact to pre-season.

During this meeting in Bangkok in July 2022, Jurgen Klopp called upon 31 players. Of course his side were going to get torn apart. Ten Hag, on the other hand, used just two different XIs.

Ralf Rangnick was such a mysterious man. The 2021/22 season will always rank among the most confusing of United campaigns.

For some reason, Phil Jones was brought in from the cold to start. Paul Pogba made his final appearance for the club before being hauled off with injury after ten minutes. As you can imagine, Liverpool were able to feast and the great mystery is how they didn't score more than four.
