Manchester United are 'keeping tabs' on Bayer Leverkusen duo Edmond Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong, according to a report.

Leverkusen have been one of the stories of the 2023/24 season so far and are the last remaining unbeaten side in Europe's top five leagues, having moved five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday with a 3-0 win at home to title rivals Bayern Munich.

Head coach Xabi Alonso has received universal acclaim for his work in the Leverkusen dugout and is a leading contender to take the Liverpool job this summer once Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield. There is also, understandably, a lot of clamour to sign the players who have put Alonso's vision into motion on the pitch.

The Manchester Evening News report that United are monitoring the development of centre-back Tapsoba and wing-back Frimpong, with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster the quality of his backline. Leverkusen boast the meanest defence in the Bundesliga, shipping only 14 goals in 21 games so far, and they are also expected to enjoy a deep run in the Europa League.

Tapsoba was targeted by United last summer in their search for a new centre-back but the Red Devils ultimately decided against a move for the Burkina Faso international. He was also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur before they opted to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg instead.

United held talks with Frimpong's representatives last year and too was on their radar for the summer 2023 transfer window, but they shelved plans to move for the Dutchman following Aaron Wan-Bissaka's return to form, while they also handed Diogo Dalot a new contract.

Frimpong has enjoyed an incredible campaign at right wing-back under Alonso, racking up eight goals and 10 assists in 27 games for Leverkusen across all competitions. He has also worked his way into Ronald Koeman's Netherlands squad ahead of this summer's European Championships.
