Liverpool have ground to make up in the Champions League qualification race and start their run-in after the international break with a trip to current English champions Manchester City.

The two sides have often sparred for the Premier League title but this season City are chasing Arsenal with Liverpool down in sixth but certainly not out of top four contention.

Manager Jurgen Klopp still has a number of injury concerns, though a couple of players could return in what would be very welcome and timely boosts for the Reds.

Here's the side they could deploy at the Etihad.

GK: Alisson - Brazil's number one has conceded four more goals in the Premier League this season than compatriot Ederson, though the two goalkeepers are tied on ten clean sheets each.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - Wasn't involved with England during the break and turned down a week off to train at Melwood.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - Started France's two Euro 2024 qualifiying victories over the Netherlands and France, keeping two clean sheets.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Conceded four goals to Konate's France. Hasn't been at his authoritative best this season and Liverpool have suffered.

LB: Andy Robertson - Enjoyed a 2-0 win over Spain with Scotland recently and will probably mention it to City's Rodri at some point.

CM: Harvey Elliott - Liverpool's lack of fit midfield options means Elliott may be forced into a central role again. It hasn't really worked so far and a trip to City is one hell of a test for the 19-year-old in such a key position.

CM: Fabinho - Another whose poor form has dragged Liverpool down this season. Thiago's absence places more responsibility on the Brazilian.

CM: Jordan Henderson - Still involved with the England setup at 34 and, with newcomer Stefan Bajcetic out for the season, Henderson will likely feature heavily during the run-in.

RW: Mohamed Salah - Won't be winning the Premier League Golden Boot this season but a trademark run of form from the Egyptian could be the difference between fourth place and sixth.

ST: Cody Gakpo - Was quieter against Bournemouth and Real Madrid after a starring turn in the 7-0m thumping of Man Utd.

LW: Darwin Nunez - Is carrying a knock that saw him withdraw from the Uruguay squad. Klopp will hope to call upon the forward's chaotic energy to unsettle City's defence.
