Liverpool's most used players under Jurgen Klopp - starting XI
Jurgen Klopp is celebrating his sixth anniversary as Liverpool manager following his appointment as permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers on 8 October 2015.
Klopp has delivered incredible levels of success at Anfield, restoring the club to the pinnacle of European football by winning the Champions League in 2019 and even breaking the longstanding league title drought with a first triumph of the Premier League era in 2020.
At a time when most clubs quickly cycle through managers in desperate search of glory, Klopp has stayed the distance at Liverpool and is already a club legend for what he has achieved.
He worked with the club to build a new team almost from the ground up after he arrived, keeping hold of only a handful of players he initially inherited.
Here's a look through the most used Liverpool players under Klopp's management as a full matchday squad - a starting XI and nine on the bench...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Alisson (GK) – 139 appearances: It is only in the last year that the Brazilian has overtaken Simon Mignolet as Klopp’s most used Liverpool goalkeeper. He has proven to be worth every penny since his £67m arrival from Roma in 2018.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 185 appearances: Emerged as a first-team regular midway through the 2017/18 campaign and hasn’t looked back since. His incredible creativity and attacking prowess makes him a world class asset.
Dejan Lovren (CB) – 141 appearances: Klopp inherited the Croatian defender from predecessor Brendan Rodgers but kept hold of him until 2020 when he was sold to Zenit St Petersburg. He had remained a regular in Klopp’s first three seasons at Anfield.
Virgil van Dijk (CB) – 138 appearances: It would have been far more Liverpool appearances but for an ACL injury that wiped out most of the towering Dutchman’s 2020/21 campaign. His arrival in January 2018 was one of the final pieces of the jigsaw for Klopp’s success.
Andrew Robertson (LB) – 184 appearances: Liverpool landed him for a bargain £8m from Hull in the summer of 2017. But while his Anfield career didn’t catch fire immediately, he has since developed into arguably the best left-back in the world.
2. Midfielders
James Milner (CM) – 246 appearances: Signed as a free agent from Manchester City just a few months before Klopp arrived and has been an invaluable servant. Has played less often since 2019 but his versatility is still incredibly useful to the club.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM) – 237 appearances: The Dutchman was among Klopp’s first Liverpool signings and have five strong years to the club before moving on at the end of last season. He became a fan favourite and played in 179 of 190 possible Premier League games.
Jordan Henderson (CM) – 213 appearances: Injuries have limited the captain’s playing time on occasion over the years, but he featured over 400 times in a Liverpool shirt and just over half of those have been since Klopp was hired.
3. Forwards
Mohamed Salah (RF) – 212 appearances: Few could have reasonably predicted the incredible impact the Egyptian has had since his 2017 arrival. He netted 44 times in all competitions straight off the bat and has made a blistering start to the 2021/22 season.
Roberto Firmino (ST) – 291 appearances: Having arrived under the management of Brendan Rodgers, it was working with Klopp and alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane that the Brazilian caught fire. He is Klopp’s most used player in his entire managerial career.
Sadio Mane (LF) – 227 appearances: Arguably Klopp’s first major signing for Liverpool when he arrived from Southampton in 2016. He reached new heights between 2017 and 2020 when the Reds were at their peak and rarely misses games.
