Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has refused to rule Mohamed Salah out of this Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

Salah recently returned from a hamstring injury he suffered at the Africa Cup of Nations but, after scoring and assisting on his comeback against Brentford, was back on the sidelines for the midweek comeback victory over Luton.

Reports in Salah's native Egypt suggested the winger had aggravated his hamstring problem, making him an obvious doubt for Sunday's trip to Wembley.

Lijnders, however, is trying to remain positive and refused to rule Salah out of the game, admitting the 31-year-old will face a late fitness test alongside Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai.

"Dom, Darwin and Mo, we have to really see," Lijnders said. "We have two more days and we will check if they are there, would be great if they can be to be honest. And the rest, Jurgen [Klopp] has already said."

Lijnders went on to confirm that Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all be sidelined until after the March international break, as will goalkeeper Alisson, whose return timeline was recently revealed by Brazil boss Dorival Junior.

Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak complete Liverpool's injured cohort.

"We look to what we have," Lijnders reflected. "It's also good in life to accept what you have, so that is what we're trying to do. It brought us success in the past and we try to keep it.

"I feel really happy with that, I said it a long time ago. We have a few injuries so we get young players, players who didn't play five in a row but they can show up and that is really cool. This season is a season we already created new teams, it's a compliment to our squad and our academy."
