The injury picked up by Lionel Messi in Barcelona's 3-1 win over Napoli on Saturday night isn't thought to be serious and the Argentine's set to be fit for next Friday's Champions League quarter final with Bayern Munich.

Messi dazzled in Barça's triumph over the Neapolitans, as he rounded off a superb team goal with a piece of individual brilliance for his side's second of the night after Clement Lenglet had given the hosts the lead.

The 33-year-old then won his side a spot-kick in first-half stoppage time, but Kalidou Koulibaly's strong challenge forced Messi into receiving treatment on the Camp Nou turf before Luis Suarez scored the resulting penalty. Lorenzo Insigne swiftly pulled a goal back for Napoli via a spot-kick of his own, but there'd be no miracle comeback from the visitors in the second period.

Nevertheless, sources at Barcelona (via Marca) have revealed the injury sustained to Messi - who played the remainder of the contest - isn't serious and he's set to be fit for next Friday's encounter with the German champions with a place in the Champions League semi-finals on the line.

He took a blow to his left foot that is now inflamed, but there are no planned medical tests and it's thought that applying ice and basic care will be enough to reduce the swelling.

Bayern waltzed into the last eight following a 4-1 victory over an injury-ridden Chelsea outfit in Bavaria, confirming their progression with an emphatic 7-1 aggregate scoreline.

The news regarding Messi is undoubtedly a relief for Barça, who will face perhaps the most complete side in Europe in Die Roten next week.

It's a supremely difficult test for the vulnerable Catalans, but you simply can't write them off if Lionel Messi's fit and firing. The performances of a returning Frenkie de Jong and the underrated Clement Lenglet against the Partenepoi also stand La Blaugrana in good stead for the crunch encounter in Lisbon.
