Leicester 3-1 Legia Warsaw: Player ratings as Foxes jump from bottom to top of group
Leicester took a large step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League by soundly beating Legia Warsaw at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night.
Patson Daka became the Foxes' all time leading goalscorer in Europe with five strikes as he swivelled and fired into the bottom corner, before James Maddison doubled their lead, curling a lovely effort beyond visiting goalkeeper Cezary Miszta.
Their advantage was cut in half, however, when Wilfred Ndidi was penalised for handball. Mahir Emreli's weak penalty was kept out by Kasper Schmeichel but Filip Mladenovic reacted quickest to tuck in the rebound.
The see-saw rhythm of the first half continued as Leicester made it 3-1, with Ndidi making amends to head in from Maddison's corner.
The second period was a much more sedate affair, with Brendan Rodgers' side happy to see out the game and ensure they head to the final matchday in a good position.
Group C remains up for grabs, with all four teams - Spartak Moscow and Napoli make up the rest of the group - still in with a chance of finishing in the top two. Leicester travel to Naples in December for their final game in this phase of the competition.
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 7/10 - Saved the penalty and was unlucky that Mladenovic reacted quicker than his Leicester teammates. Slight moment of miscommunication with Amartey but was largely solid throughout the evening.
Timothy Castagne (RB) - 6/10 - Got back well to clear a flicked header near the back stick.
Caglar Soyuncu (CB) - 6/10 - His header deflected into Ndidi for the penalty. Made an important clearance on the line to prevent a goal.
Daniel Amartey (CB) - 4/10 - Nearly had a shot deflect off him and past Schmeichel. Tried to shepherd the ball back to his goalkeeper at one point and allowed Legia's Ernest Muci to nick in, but Soyuncu bailed his side out of trouble. Was a late swap for the injured Jonny Evans, so perhaps that explains his scrambled performance.
Luke Thomas (LB) - 7/10 - Galloped forward well on occasion and nearly got a goal with a low drive. Didn't shirk his defensive duties, making five tackles. Was booked.
2. Midfielders
Boubakary Soumare (CM) - 6/10 - Played his part in some nice flowing Leicester moves. Kept things ticking over without being too eye-catching.
Wilfred Ndidi (CM) - 8/10 - Might feel aggrieved to have been penalised for the penalty, but his hand was raised. Put things right regardless with a good header to make it 3-1.
James Maddison (AM) - 8/10 - Great finish to double Leicester's lead and helped restore that two-goal advantage when his inswinging corner was diverted in by Ndidi. Was very much in the mood before being substituted having taken a knock.
3. Forwards
Ademola Lookman (RW) - 6/10 - Lovely pass picked out Maddison before Leicester's second goal of the evening. Was decent but might not have done enough to earn a Premier League start at the weekend.
Patson Daka (ST) - 7/10 - Did brilliantly to create some space for himself to bag the opener. Was electric early on and produced a good performance in all, though he did pass up on some good opportunities. Is now Leicester's leading goalscorer in Europe.
Harvey Barnes (LW) - 7/10 - His determined work led to Daka's strike. Had a great chance to get his side's fourth but struck the side-netting. Was a live wire all evening.
