Leeds United Striker Rodrigo Tests Positive for Coronavirus
Leeds United forward Rodrigo has tested positive for coronavirus.
The Spaniard became the club's record signing in the summer when he joined in a £26m deal from Valencia and has scored once in 320 minutes of Premier League action thus far.
Rodrigo was absent for the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester on Monday night, and was already set to miss Leeds' trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday after coming into contact with a confirmed case.
The 29-year-old has since revealed on his official Instagram page that he too has tested positive for the virus.
He wrote: "Unfortunately I have tested positive for Covid-19 after being in contact with a family member that had been infected without us knowing.
"As per the protocol, I will be self-isolating and will miss the game with Crystal Palace.
"Both my family and I feel great, we are lucky enough to feel healthy and we are keeping a positive attitude. From home I will support Leeds and the Spanish national team as a supporter and I will be back on the pitch soon.
"Thank you for all those who have shown concern," he concluded.
Thus, a return for Leeds' clash with Arsenal on the 22 November appears likely.
Rodrigo must isolate for 10 days from the date of the positive result before returning to training or matches. That would mean that he can train freely well before taking on Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
The Premier League, meanwhile, has confirmed four positive cases in the latest round of testing.
It's their efficient and sophisticated testing system which will allow English top-flight football to continue despite the UK entering a second nationwide lockdown for four weeks from midnight on Thursday.
