La Liga are investigating an alleged insult from Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham made to Mason Greenwood during their midweek clash.

Los Blancos ran out 2-0 winners at Estadio Coliseum thanks to Joselu's brace but footage showing Bellingham saying something after tackling Greenwood went viral on social media.

Greenwood's club have filed a complaint and an expert lip reader will be brought in to help with the investigation.

A La Liga statement read: "Getafe yesterday transferred the complaint to the La Liga match director and La Liga, as it always does on these occasions, has requested an expert report on lip-reading to investigate the matter and act on the basis of what can be proven beyond doubt (by the lip reader)."

The Daily Mail brought in a lip-reader of their own, Jeremy Freeman, who revealed what Madrid midfielder Bellingham might have said on Thursday.

He said: "After carefully analysing the clip, I am 97 per cent confident that the spoken word is 'rapist', particularly when considering the context in which it was used.

"The visual cues of the lips indicate the presence of the 'R' and 'P' sounds, and the word appears to end sharply.

"Additionally, the speaker seems to have a pronounced Brummie accent, which I factored into my interpretation.

"Given the clarity of these visual markers and the absence of any viable alternative interpretation, I am quite certain of this conclusion."

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in the summer transfer window after it was confirmed parent club Manchester United had decided the young forward should continue his professional career away from Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old was suspended by Man Utd in January 2022 after being accused of rape and assault but those charges were dropped little over a year later.

The Premier League club opened their own investigation, exploring a number of scenarios before sending him to Spain.
