Minnesota United booked their place in the MLS Cup Playoffs with a dramatic Decision Day draw against the LA Galaxy, who see their season come to an end as a result.

Minnesota first scored as Adrien Hunou finished off a sweeping counter-attack. The Loons then doubled the lead as Robin Lod popped up at the back post to profit from some messy LA defending from a corner.

But the Galaxy didn't lie down and take it easy. Sebastian Lletget pulled one back just before half-time, finding the net from a dangerous Kevin Cabral cross while, just after the break, Chicharito leveled with his first genuine look at goal.

Adrian Heath's men forced an unfortunate own goal from Julian Araujo to go 3-2 up just after the hour-mark but were humbled again by Chicharito. The Loons could have sealed the game in the 87th minute but the Galaxy were let off the hook as Franco Fragapane smashed the post from the penalty spot.

LA's joy was short-lived. Damir Kreilach's last gasp winner for RSL at Sporting KC sees the Galaxy drop to eighth in the West and out of the Playoff spots. Minnesota, meanwhile, end the regular season in fifth and will travel to Portland in the first round of the post-season.

Here are your player ratings for both teams...

LA Galaxy player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Jonathan Bond (GK) - 4/10 - Made just one save which directed the ball straight into Fragapane, had to be bailed out by Araujo. Didn't command his box with any authority.

Julian Araujo (RB) - 6/10 - Set up Chicharito for the Galaxy's second and generally looked dangerous going forward. Terribly unfortunate with his own goal, had to do something with Hunou's cross with Fragapane running into the six-yard box. Made up for it with a vital block on a Fragapane shot 15 minutes later.

Nick DePuy (CB) - 4/10 - Was given the runaround by Minnesota's dynamic forward line. The movement and directness left him DePuy seeing stars.

Derrick Williams (CB) - 4/10 - Same as DePuy, just couldn't cope with the Loons' attack. Can't be marked down for the penalty, Fragapane smashed the ball at him from a couple of yards away - very harsh.

Oniel Fisher (LB) - 4/10 - Another poor showing from Fisher, who has suffered a tough few weeks. Allowed Fragapane to get behind him a couple of times and was drawn out of position by Reynoso drifting into his position. Brought off in the 39th minute.

2. Midfielders

Victor Vazquez (RM) - 7/10 - Played in Araujo to set up Chicharito's first and created a few openings himself. At 34, he's not the explosive force he used to be, but Vazquez can still pick you apart.

Jonathan dos Santos (CM) - 7/10 - Got through a lot of defensive work but was often left out to dry with Reynoso running at him, needed more help. But individually, he did well.

Ryan Raveloson (CM) - 7/10 - Six tackles and four interceptions tell you all you need to know about just how busy Raveloson was in the middle of the park. Still had some energy left to launch a couple of Galaxy attacks.

Sebastian Lletget (LM) - 7/10 - Gave the Galaxy hope with a goal just before half-time and played a key role in their second. Started to look tired and was replaced by Samuel Grandsir with 20 minutes left.

3. Forwards

Kevin Cabral (ST) - 7/10 - A dangerous partner for Chicharito with his pace and movement. Set up Lletget's goal and came close himself a couple of times.

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez (ST) - 9/10 - Had a tough time battling against the Loons' center-backs but held the ball up well and only needed two real looks at goal to stick the ball in the net. Lethal, talismanic, iconic.

4. Substitutes

Niko Hamalainen (for Fisher, 39mins) - 6/10 - Shored things up a little, in comparison to Fisher at least.

Samuel Grandsir (for Lletget, 68 mins) - 5/10 - Didn't spice things up as Vanney would have hoped.

Sacha Kljestan (for Dos Santos, 68 mins) - 5/10 - So much experience, but unable to influence the game.

Efrain Alvarez (for Victor Vazquez, 85 mins) - N/A - Not enough time to show what he can do.

Minnesota United player ratings

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Tyler Miller (GK) - 6/10 - Probably should have done better for the third goal, but was helpless on the other two. Made some important saves between the goals.

Romain Metanire (RB) - 5/10 - Assisted the opening goal and gave Minnesota some good thrust going forward, but inexplicably gave the ball away to set LA forward for the leveler.

Michael Boxall (CB) - 6/10 - Assisted Lod's goal to make it 2-0 and did his best to keep Chicharito quiet. Let down defensively by those around him.

Bakaye Dibassy (CB) - 5/10 - Booked for a nasty challenge on Chicharito early on and looked nervous thereafter.

Chase Gasper (LB) - 3/10 - Was dispossessed AND fell asleep at the back post for Lletget's reply just before half-time. A nightmare performance from Gasper, who was also out of position to give Araujo room to assist Chicharito's equalizer.

6. Midfielders

Wil Trapp (CM) - 7/10 - Used the ball well in the middle for Minnesota, creating a couple of openings and passing with precision.

Hassani Dotson (CM) - 6/10 - Provided a lot of energy in the middle for the Loons and looked dangerous when he got his head up.

Emanuel Reynoso (CAM) - 9/10 - Started the counter-attack for Minnesota's first goal and was constantly probing for gaps in the Galaxy defense. Adrian Heath might just be right about him being the best player in MLS, on his day at least.

7. Forwards

Robin Lod (RW) - 8/10 - Scored Minnesota's second and created more chances (4) than any other player in an excellent night's work from Lod. Such an underrated player.

Adrien Hunou - (CF) - 7/10 - Opened the scoring and forced the Araujo own goal - looked dangerous for the entire 76 minutes he was on the field.

Franco Fragapane (LW) - 7/10 - Dynamic and creative, but fluffed a chance to win the game for Minnesota, smashing the post from the penalty spot.

Substitutes: Ethan Finlay (for Hunou, 76 mins) - 5/10 - Brought on to energise the Minnesota forward line. Couldn't get into the game. Brent Kallman (for Reynoso, 89 mins) - N/A - Not enough time to influence things.
