Jurgen Klopp has hailed the performance of young defender Jarell Quansah in Liverpool's 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth.

The centre-back thoroughly impressed at the heart of the Reds' defence on Wednesday evening in his fourth start this season. Quansah completed 89% of his passes, made seven clearances, two interceptions and won four duals in an all-action outing.

The victory on the south coast set up an Anfield quarter-final with West Ham, who beat Arsenal on the same night, in December.

Speaking to the press after the win, manager Klopp reserved special praise for 20-year-old Quansah.

He said: "That's the other thing which was obvious: that he was really good. In these circumstances, wow. So many difficult balls to judge, to estimate, where is it coming down? He did really well.

"On the ball, Caoimhin [Kelleher] thought give him the ball quite a lot and let's see what he can do. He did really well there. Yes, top game, absolutely."

Quansah's performances have previously earned rave reviews from his teammates too, with Andy Robertson hailing his showing in his Premier League debut against Wolves back in mid-September.

He said: "He was very assured, done his defending very well and then on the ball he was cool and calm.

"He has got a bright future ahead of him but the here and now is pretty good as well and for him to step in at a really tough place to come, a really tough team to play against, and to put in that performance, particularly in the second half, then fair play to him for his first start."

The youngster will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt in the coming weeks when Liverpool face Luton Town and Brentford in the Premier League and Toulouse in the Europa League.
