Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to be downbeat after his side dropped two more points in a 0-0 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds were unable to find a way past an inspired Jordan Pickford, who superbly tipped Darwin Nunez's dipping shot onto the crossbar before parrying Mohamed Salah's injury-time drive onto the base of the left post.

The Reds have endured a difficult start to the league season and were again below their best against the Toffees, who were spurred on by a tremendous atmosphere at Goodison Park.

Everton could have even won the game, but Conor Coady saw a goal ruled out offside in addition to Neal Maupay missing a glorious opportunity. That Maupay chance, which was saved by Alisson, was one of the talking points raised by Klopp after the game, who said that his side must continue to look forward rather than dwelling on dropping further points.

"Ali had to make an insane save from Maupay. For me, the ball was already in," Klopp told BBC's Match of the Day. "After Wednesday it was really tough. These games are rarely for people who love the most beautiful football, because both teams have to fight like crazy. It was just super intense.

"We created a lot of chances and especially with the timing of our last goal [against Newcastle], it feels like we lost two points. The best moments they had were from counter-attacks after we were in their box. Our positioning for the second ball wasn’t great.

"The situation we’re in right now is not a dream. It’s good that players are coming back, but we have to make sure we use them in the right manner.

"It’s not the start we wanted. Six games and nine points is not exactly a dream, but those are the points we’ve got and let’s go from there. If we get through these moments together we have a chance to create better moments in the future."

Liverpool kick off their Champions League campaign on Wednesday when they welcome Napoli to Anfield, with a Premier League clash with Wolves looming just three days later.
