Chelsea legend John Terry is in talks over taking charge of Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Terry has accumalated extensive coaching experience since his playing days, working with Aston Villa, Leicester City and most recently in the Blues' youth setup, but he has never had the top job himself.

Al Shabab have held talks with a number of big names, including former Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier, but now they have turned to Terry, who is close to agreeing a long-term contract to secure his first management role.

Shabab are not one of the PIF-owned giants of the Pro League but the Riyadh-based team have made some big signings themselves, including the recent addition of Belgian star Yannick Carrasco. They are now looking to follow that up by securing Terry's signature.

Sources have told 90min that former Chelsea director of football Michael Emanalo - now helping to run the Saudi Pro League in a similar position - has helped set-up the prospective deal for Terry.

Terry is currently part of Chelsea's academy staff. He rejoined Chelsea this summer after finishing last season as part of Dean Smith's staff at Leicester. Before that, Terry also spent three successful years with him at Aston Villa, up to 2021 when he first opted to return to Chelsea.

Terry has previously stated that he was put off the idea of management after failing to land a top job in his own right.

"I always see myself as a coach long-term," Terry said in April. "I enjoy the coaching side of it, but I have to say there were better coaches than me. I went for a couple of jobs when I left, didn't get those jobs, got a little bit deflated. I've just decided against [management]."
