Philadelphia Union got the better of their Eastern Conference rivals New York Red Bulls on Sunday night, triumphing 4-1 at Subaru Park.

It's become a similar scoreline for MLS fans, as Philadelphia have now won three straight games against New York in 2023, and have also won the last five out of six meetings between the two teams.

Four different goal scorers were on the scoresheet for the home side - Daniel Gazdag, Damion Lowe, Julian Carranza and Jakob Glesnes - to help seal the three points for the Union.

"That was us tonight. Winning transitions, scoring on restarts, being pretty sound defensively, not giving up a ton of shots on all Andre," said Curtin after the game. "A good Union win – that no one will remember at the end of the year."

There's no denying that games between the Union and Red Bulls can get feisty, and Curtin explained how he gets his players prepared for these kind of matchups.

"The intensity was there - when you play Red Bull, you always have to match their intensity. It's gonna be a fight. I said to the guys if we match their intensity and we're willing to do the running and the fighting, our soccer can take over," Curtin said.

Philadelphia, now in fourth place in the Eastern Conference table with 46 points, will be back in action after the international break when they take on FC Cincinnati on September 16 at Subaru Park.

"Great performance, good team win," Curtin added. "We have an international break now, we’ll give the guys some time to rest up but overall a good way to go into the break."
