Minnesota United midfielder Hassani Dotson has been ruled out of the 2022 Major League Soccer season after tearing his ACL. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days, the club announced Saturday.

The player picked up the lesion during Friday’s training as Minnesota prepared to face the Chicago Fire.

"It's sad day for us all. I felt as though he was really starting to come into his own. It's a big blow for everybody, none more so than him. But he's a strong boy. Mentally he's strong as well. One of his strengths is his physicality. I think that will help. He'll be back the beginning of next year, we think,” Loons coach Adrian Heath said.

"These injuries are never easy and I feel really bad for him now because he's such a great player and has such potential," teammate Robin Lod echoed.

"He is young and gets better every year and now he's going to miss this season. I feel really bad for him. I'm sure he'll be back and be better, for sure."

Dotson stood as a key figure for Minnesota, leaving them in the lurch as they battle to remain within the top five teams of the Western Conference.

The midfielder first joined the team in 2019 after being selected during the SuperDraft’s second round. Since then, Dotson has proved himself as a versatile asset by recording eight goals and six assists in 78 games. The player features in the midfield full-back, when needed.

He kicked off the 2022 MLS season with a bang, managing one goal and two assists before picking up the injury. Now, he joins Patrick Weah on the sidelines.
