Harry Kane has named captain in Tottenham's starting XI to face Shakhtar Donetsk in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

Kane has been the subject of interest from Bayern Munich this summer. The Bundesliga side have offered a club-record £86m for the England skipper and won't a decision from Spurs soon over the proposed transfer.

The 30-year-old has a year left on his contract and the north London side still hope to negotiate fresh terms despite regressing in their pursuit of trophies in recent years.

The new season starts for Spurs a week on Sunday when they travel to Brentford looking to improve on last term's dismal finish of eighth which included Antonio Conte's meltdown at Southampton and Cristian Stellini's extremely ill-fated four-game stint as interim boss.

Kane has scored 213 Premier League goals for Tottenham and a similar return to his 2022/23 campaign - when he struck 30 times in England's top flight - would leave him agonisingly close to Alan Shearer's record of 260.

Elsewhere in Spurs' starting XI there are first starts in north London for Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison, with Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski partnering Kane in attack.

The deal for Micky van de Ven is nearing completion but not yet over the line, leaving Ben Davies to partner Cristian Romero in central defence. Eric Dier and Davison Sanchez are both are on the bench.

They face a Shakhtar side already two games into their Ukrainian Premier League campaign, recording a win and a draw.

Bayern have one friendly left - against Monaco on Monday - before their season starts with the DFL-Supercup against RB Leipzig.
