Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has claimed Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham helped convince Mason Greenwood to move to Spain this summer.

The forward joined Getafe on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day after Manchester United decided he would not return to first-team action at Old Trafford.

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape and assault in October 2022 before being dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.

Man Utd sought to conduct their own investigation into Greenwood's conduct with a view to a potential return, but the two parties came to a 'mutual agreement' that his future should be at a different club.

Getafe signed Greenwood on loan for the 2023/24 season just before the summer transfer window deadline and he has begun training with his new teammates in recent weeks.

90min reported late in the window the likes of Lazio, Atalanta and Besiktas had emerged as potential landing spots before he sealed a move to La Liga.

Speaking to Radio MARCA, Bordalas stated Greenwood was contacted by Bellingham - who completed a transfer to Real Madrid in June - to sell him the idea of a move to Spain.

"Greenwood is friends with Bellingham, and he advised him to come to the Spanish league," Bordalas said.

"It was a surprise, we never thought we could get a player like that. But they [Man Utd] got in touch with our sporting director, we talked, we didn't think it could happen but both sides made an effort [financially].

"He is a fantastic player. You have to be patient, calm, he hasn't played in a year-and-a-half. We and his colleagues are helping him. He is integrating in a sensational way and I hope he can help us."
