Gabriel Agbonlahor responds to Jurgen Klopp criticism
Gabriel Agbonlahor has hit back at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after the German called out the pundit over his criticism of Manchester United.
The former Aston Villa striker was scathing in his assessment of United's 4-0 defeat to Brentford on the radio phone-in show as he branded Erik ten Hag's side a "shambles".
Klopp admitted that he took umbrage to the comments, saying that he was close to calling into the show to remind Agbonlahor about his experience in a 6-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
"You forget in these moments how good Brentford are, to be honest,” the Reds boss said on Friday.
"[Agbonlahor] lost against us…6-0…in my first year. I couldn’t remember him as a mentality monster on the pitch. But what he said about United on that show, I was close to calling in to tell, ‘You forgot completely that you have been a player'. Unbelievable.
"Now you just have to ask yourself, how would you want to react in a situation like this. We would, of course, fight back. That is completely normal and that is what we expect [from United]."
However, Agbonlahor believes Klopp should be focussing on his own profession as he insists he won't be lectured to by the German.
"I woke up and I’ve never seen my phone blow up as much as it was. I was like ‘what’s happened?’, ‘Jurgen Klopp has done this’," the pundit told talkSPORT.
