Gameweek 24 presents a rare big captain decision, with Marcus Rashford providing a credible alternative to Erling Haaland for the armband this week.

So which of these key contenders should you back?

Erling Haaland has seen an upturn in form in recent games after some underwhelming performances since the restart. He now has four goals and one assist over the last three gameweeks, with a leading tally of 26 Premier League goals this season putting him significantly ahead in the Golden Boot race.

Over this period he’s top for big chances on goal with nine, with an xG of 4.27 returning five goals. Manchester City’s performances have improved of late too, winning four of their last five games. They beat Nottingham Forest 6-0 in the reverse of this weekend’s fixture back in Gameweek 5, with Erling Haaland scoring a hat-trick for 17 points on that day.

Haaland will be the overwhelming favourite for FPL Gameweek 24 captaincy once again with the only concern being his form away from home, with only around 30% of his goals coming on the road. Forest have kept clean sheets in two of their three home games this season, conceding just once, but do have some injury concerns in their defence.

Marcus Rashford vs Leicester (H)

Marcus Rashford has been in sensational form since the World Cup, delivering attacking returns in every single gameweek baring just one blank. He’s amassed eight goals and two assists in that time and significantly, he’s scored in every single home game in that spell, with 52 FPL points in ten games.

Rashford sits top for shots (21) in the last four gameweeks, scoring five goals from six big chances. He’s also made six key passes in that time. As a midfielder he can accumulate fantasy points more quickly than forwards, with an additional point for a goal and eligibility for clean sheet points. Team-mate Bruno Fernandes is the one on penalties though.

Manchester United will be missing Casemiro for this fixture which does dent their overall team strength; he’s serving the third match of his suspension for the red card he received against Crystal Palace. Opponents Leicester are on a hot streak, winning each of their last two fixtures and scoring four goals on each occasion. They haven’t kept a clean sheet since the restart though.
