Everton team news

Fabian Delph joined Abdoulaye Doucoure in the treatment room a matter of days after the latter pulled up with a groin strain during Duncan Ferguson's sole match as a placeholder in the dugout. Both are expected to be sidelined for at least a month.

Fellow midfielder Tom Davies is also unlikely to feature as he continues to struggle with a thigh injury that may well drag his recovery into March. Alex Iwobi is once again available for selection after Nigeria bowed out of AFCON at the round of 16.

New signing Dele Alli is cup tied after already featuring for Spurs in the third round.

Brentford team news

Brentford were able to welcome back a pair of long-term absentees in the form of David Raya and Josh Dasilva for a behind-closed-doors friendly with Aston Villa at the start of February. Goalkeeper Raya has been nursing a knee injury for three months while a raft of fitness complaints have conspired to deny Dasilva a competitive outing since February 2021.

Mathias Jensen, who endured a sickening head collision with teammate Rico Henry in Brentford's last Premier League match against Wolves, played the full 90 minutes of the Villa friendly - though Henry didn't feature.

Mathias 'Zanka' Jorgensen and Julian Jeanvier have both taken part in partial training sessions but Tarique Fosu (hamstring) still has some way to go in his recovery.

Everton vs Brentford head-to-head record

Everton and Brentford don't have a lengthy back-catalogue of past meetings given the few seasons spent in the same division. In fact, this will be Brentford's first trip to Goodison Park in more than 70 years.

On the Bees' last visit to the blue half of Merseyside, Everton swept aside their capital opponents with a 6-1 win in the second tier. That 1953/54 campaign ended with the Toffees' promotion and Brentford's relegation.

However, when the pair met in the Premier League for the first time earlier this season, it was Brentford that claimed victory - their ninth against Everton (D2 L7) - via an Ivan Toney penalty.

Everton vs Brentford score prediction

Rafa Benitez was ushered out of Goodison Park after a dreadful sequence of two victories from 15 matches across all competitions. Brentford's Frank has lost seven of the club's last nine outings as the Bees sit just four points above the Toffees having played three more games.

This is a tussle between two woefully out of form sides that may well be decided by a narrow margin. Lampard and his new recruits have had little time together at Finch Farm but may sneak past a Brentford team that has failed to replicate their autumnal form.

Prediction: Everton 1-0 Brentford
